On April 22nd Stoke Common, a small, but important  piece of woodland on Hayling Island will be sold at auction to the highest bidder.  Fearful that the woodland will be lost to developers local residents are hoping to buy the land and preserve it for the whole Island to enjoy.

Public Meeting : This Wednesday

There will be a meeting about the Stoke Common community bid at The Newtown House Hotel at 6.30pm on Wednesday 21st April (the day before the auction). If you have made a donation and have an questions, or if you are thinking about making a donation please come along.

The Plan

Local residents are already in the process of forming a non-profit woodland trust.  If we are successful in acquiring the land then the trust will own and manage it for the benefit of the community.

The Problem

In order to secure Stoke Common for the community the trust first needs to buy it.  For this significant funds are required and with the auction looming these funds are needed quickly.

The Solution

Grant funding is being applied for, but the timescales involve make this difficult.  Therefore private and business donations are essential if Stoke Common is to be saved for the community.
